4,397,500 of coffee seedlings out of 4.5 million produced in 92 nurseries using 68 community approaches and 998 Ha out of 1200 Ha are planted by coffee farmers, equivalent to 94% of planned area.
15.47 million of tea seedlings out of 16.8 million produced in 5 Greenfield sites: Muganza, Gatare, Rutsiro, Mushubi & Karongi using 22 community participation approach and are maintained in 22 nurseries . 1,167 Ha out of 1,200 Ha are planted by tea farmers, equivalent to 97% of planned area
Elaboration of business plans for cooperative in 5 Greenfield sites to finance the extension and plantation maintenance activities.
89 animators in place are supported by the project and provided technical services to coffee farmers in best practices (production of seedlings, pruning, fertilization and pesticide application)
Contract signed with Technoserve to train 10,000 coffee farmers for Farmers Field School and a training of 38 farmer trainers is ongoing and identification of farmers to be trained in FFS under process.

Acquisition of 1500 liters of Effective Micro-organism (EM) and molasses to produce organic fertilizer from coffee pulp CWS. 9,791 tons of organic fertilizers were produced and 9,436 tons are applied by coffee farmers who supplied their cherries to those specific CWS.
23 cooperative staffs in charge of quality and production in CWS from cooperatives were trained on cupping and are able to undertake both the visual and cup quality evaluation of coffee received at CWS.
Coffee day took place in the four districts of Rusizi, Rurindo, Ngoma and Huye Districts and around 9,000 farmers participated in this event. This activity registered success stories about coffee consumption, coffee advertisement and good agricultural practices to farmers and coffee stakeholders..
497 women from 8 cooperatives under MISOZI were trained in June 2013 on coffee roasting procedures using the local materials
43 silkworm rearing houses were constructed by farmers and received project support for roofing materials
An area of 435 Ha were prepared by silk farmers and 35 Ha of mulberry plantations were planted
Partnership with BDF: A Memorandum of Understanding between MINAGRI through PRICE and BRD Development Fund (BDF Ltd) has been signed. BDF will administer (i) a performance-based grant facility and (ii) a guarantee facility to be used by Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs) to secure loans advanced to producers’ in the tea, coffee and horticulture value chains to increase their incomes.
The first tranche of 25% (USD 250,000) of the performance based grant for financing of stakeholders in the horticulture value chain through a 50% matching grant and the full disbursement of the guarantee funds (USD 450,000) has been transferred to BDF.
An amount of USD 307,500 (50%) has been transferred to BDF through a 33% matching grant to both coffee and tea value chains in June 2013.
38 horticulture projects approved by BDF in collaboration with PRICE Project for the Performance-Based Grant.
